Apple may see an opportunity to develop some new iPad accessories for the gamers out there. The company is reportedly working on a physical controller to enhance game play on iPads, iPhones and other Apple devices.
In a review of the new iPad at AnandTech.com, writers noted that some games on the iPad would be better played with a controller.
"While controller support in Android in its infancy at best, it's more than iOS currently offers," the review said. "I know of an internal Apple project to bring a physical controller to market, but whether or not it will ever see the light of day remains to be seen. As smartphones and tablets come close to equalling the performance of current game consoles, I feel like the controller problem must be addressed."
According to Apple review site CultOfMac.com, playing some games, especially first-person shooter games, can be a frustrating experience using a touchscreen controller. Physical controllers could be the next big thing for iPad accessories, and with more games coming to the tablet format, companies like Apple may be wise to address this market need.
