Good news for those who are into buying iPhone accessories: It seems as though the mobile division of Apple is starting to become more popular. A report by IDC for 2011 shows that Apple pushed past ZTE and LG on the back of iPhone 4 and 4S as the third-largest handset vendor in the world.

"The mobile phone market exhibited unusually low growth last quarter, which shows it is not immune to weaker macroeconomic conditions worldwide," said Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst with IDC's Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker. "The introduction of high-growth products such as the iPhone 4S, which shipped in the fourth quarter, bolstered smartphone growth. Yet overall market growth fell to its lowest point since third quarter of fiscal year 2009 when the global economic recession was in full bloom."

Ramon Llamas, senior research analyst with IDC's Mobile Phone Technology and Trends team, said feature phones are becoming more like smartphones to help certain businesses keep up with others in a increasingly competitive mobile business.

Apple had a record-breaking quarter in the fourth quarter of the year, IDC said, which means there will likely be more mobile phone accessories produced for the company. In all, vendors shipped 427.4 million mobile devices in the fourth quarter, a 6.1 percent year-over-year growth.
