Being able to back up your iOS device has always been something we wanted without having to jailbreak our devices. It is arguable, that you can back it up via iTunes, when you sync your device. This is unfortunately only for the software on your phone, not everything in your iPhone, but just apps, music, photos, and such. There is a program called PhoneDisk which has the rsync which make it possible to backup all of your iPhone. You will simply need to download and install PhoneDisk, connect your iOS device to PhoneDisk (this mounts it as a disk drive), rename your device with a simple name, then make sure your software for rsync is updated, and finally input this command line:cd /volumes;/usr/local/bin/rsync -avv –protect-args ‘iPhone’/ ‘Macintosh HD’/Users/Home/Downloads/iphone_backup. After doing all of this you should be able to sync your device and it will be backed up onto your computer. This is a much better option for people who do not want to have to jailbreak their devices in order to back it up.
