Smartphone users with devices running on the Android mobile operating system have been anticipating the newest version of the OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, since it was announced by Google. According to Time Magazine, those with Motorola smartphones will receive this upgrade within six weeks of its official debut.
The news source reports that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the first device to receive Ice Cream Sandwich. After that, Motorola's Droid Razr and Bionic smartphones and Xoom tablet computer will be able to take advantage of the upgrade, as will the Samsung Nexus S.
Positive confirmation of the upcoming switch to the latest Android version came directly from Motorola, by means of the company's official Twitter account. Actual release dates for Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades might not be in line with the timeline established by Motorola, however, since the final decision as to when users will receive the new software will ultimately rest with users' wireless service providers.
Ice Cream Sandwich has been subject to a great deal of coverage since its public unveiling. Among its numerous upgrades and software-based smartphone accessories are new security measures designed to help prevent intrusion from hackers, according to the Register.
