While iPad 2 accessories and Kindle Fire accessories have been pretty popular over the past year, a new keyboard is being released by RIM for the BlackBery PlayBook Tablet. The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard is portable and comes with a case that could double as a stand for the tablet, the company said.

“Whether you’re typing email, creating documents, surfing the web or using other apps, the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard and its integrated carrying case is an ideal accessory,” said James Poulton, director of Advanced Accessories.

Some of the positives of the keyboard, according to RIM, is the multi-touch control, which supports the Playbook's gesture feature, heightened security via 128-bit encryption, the ability to work when it needed with a USB charger and support for third party applications. This device will retail for about $120.

Kevin Tofel writes on GigaOM that while he believes the new PlayBook accessory is a great idea, he doesn't think a $120 device for a $200 tablet will be something that is worth purchasing for the target audience. He does say that the PlayBook in general is great for what it does, but it misses some things other tablets have readily available.
