Social media giant Facebook has reportedly been working on an app specifically designed for Apple iPad for some time. Now, according to a recent TechCrunch report, the app is finally here.
However, there's good news and bad news.
The good news is that the app works. And, according to TechCrunch, it works well. Facebook for the iPad takes advantage of the tablet's touchscreen functions and size to deliver an app that is well designed and clean, the tech blog noted.
The bad news is that the app isn't strictly official. Instead, it's hidden within the code for Facebook's latest update for the iPhone and requires some jailbreaking to access. Jailbreaking enables users to access functions that aren't necessary authorized by Apple or the app developer, and Apple has said doing so can void the iPad's warranty.
As Engadget reported, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared hesitant to launch an app specifically designed for the iPad, asserting that the tablet wasn't mobile enough last November. However, it now appears he has since reversed that mindset.
