The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally known as "Black Friday" in the world of retail, due to the influx of shopping it typically prompts. Businesses in all industries offer attractive deals and discounts that last only the single day or extend through the weekend, and Amazon is throwing a twist on this trend by offering all smartphones in its catalog – except the iPhone – for a single cent.

According to the Washington Post, the deal is not free of fine print – those taking advantage of it must commit to a new or renewed two-year wireless service contract. Despite that caveat, the offering is expected to attract a massive surge of consumer activity between the start of business on November 25 and the end of the deal period on November 28.

The news source reports that Amazon is complementing this deal with a separate offer for Verizon and Sprint. Customers can earn a $100 gift card for the site for buying a device with certain smartphone accessories such as a hotspot internet feature and an appropriate data plan.

Verizon also announced that it is selling several HTC smartphones for free after a $50 mail-in rebate with a two-year agreement during this period, including the Droid Incredible 2 and 4G LTE-capable Revolution.
