According to recent reports, smartphone manufacturer HTC is rumored to be working on a new device designed specifically for women.

Earlier this week, technology news provider This Is My Next reported that a source familiar with the situation said that HTC is conducting focus groups of women in their 20s and 30s to gather ideas for a new Android-based smartphone codenamed the Bliss.

Why HTC believes that the majority of smartphones currently on the market are inherently masculine is unclear. The report suggests that there really aren't any groundbreaking differences with the rumored smartphone in terms of hardware and software. Instead, it is the mobile phone accessories that make the difference.

According to the report, the HTC Bliss will be available with a stylish Bluetooth headset, called the "charm indicator." The news provider described the accessory as a cube-shaped device that can attach easily to a purse or bag.

Whether the HTC Bliss turns out to be a good idea or a patronizing one will be determined when and if it hits the shelves. But HTC is known for its solid track record, as evident by its 229.6 percent year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2011, according to IDC.
