Tech news provider PCMag recently embarked on a 21-city road trip throughout the United States to find out what everyone probably could have guessed – Verizon has the fastest wireless network in the nation.

So while T-Mobile may run under the banner "America's Largest 4G Network," it does not get to claim the speediest. Rather, according to PCMag, Verizon's 4G LTE network gets that honor.

Verizon's 4G network appeared to be the fastest wireless option – often faster than home internet connections, PCMag said – in nearly all metropolitan areas around the United States, beating out other 4G networks from the likes of Sprint and T-Mobile.

However, in the rural areas between cities, where 4G connectivity is sparse, Verizon's LTE network was exceeded by AT&T as the front running. According to the news provider, AT&T's 3G HSPA 7.2 network "won the crown for the best balance of speed and consistency" in these areas.

The results of PCMag's study won't like come as a surprise to Verizon. Last year, the company claimed to own the fastest wireless network in America – even before releasing a phone capable of accessing it.
