With the launch of its newest handset, the myTouch 4G, T-Mobile is putting its eggs in a basket that has become a staple of smartphones – the camera. The new phone, T-Mobile says, "features the most advanced camera of any smartphone" on the market.

"Our newest myTouch device takes capturing and sharing memories to a new level by combining high-quality smartphone hardware with features that customers would expect from a top-of-the-line digital camera," said Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president of marketing at T-Mobile.

Indeed, T-Mobile did put a lot of work into the camera. The 8-megapixel camera includes dual LED flash, zero shutter lag and is capable of capturing low-light photos thanks to its wide-aperture lens. Additionally, the camera includes BurstShot, which enables rapid-fire picture taking, and ClearShot HDR for high-definition capturing.

This isn't to say T-Mobile has shirked the myTouch's other features. On the contrary, the handset includes a 3.7-inch touchscreen, a full slide-out keyboard, a 1.2-gigahertz dual-core processor and Android 2.3.

Even as T-Mobile continues to bring new devices to the market, the company is in a bit of a flux right now, waiting to be acquired by AT&T. Announced in March, T-Mobile has said it expects the deal to be complete within 12 months.
